The #1 question Advisors ask me about video
Whether I show up to speak, coach or lead a workshop, the burning question I get from Advisors ready to rock video is... "What gear should I buy... What lights? What camera? What mic? What editing software?" There's a twinkle in their eye, an urgency in their tone + a readiness to click "purchase now" on Amazon.
My answer is often surprising…
If you want to rock high-impact video to connect with your clients + grow your business:
Keep it Simple. Your phone or webcam (with a tool like Wistia Soapbox) will do the trick. I know. Not the sexy answer you were hoping for, but here's the thing- I know too many Advisors who have bought the fancy gear a "famous" YouTube Vlogger or #fintwit celebrity recommended only to find it stashed in a corner of their office never to be used. This is not the goal.
Focus on Consistency. You want your set up to be so simple that you're able to rock out videos consistently to prospects and clients. You want your prospects to arrive (or zoom in) to their first meeting with you feeling like they already know you and have clients feel that they've had in-person touchpoints with you beyond your semi-annual scheduled meetings. This is the power of video- it's ability to help you build trust quickly + consistently.
Create Accountability. Let's be honest... it can be daunting to be on video. So instead of focusing on the gear - seek out coaching, workshops and peer study groups to keep you accountable. You'll want real-time feedback and a structure that keeps you honest and helps you to continue to improve.
When you're in a place where you're shipping videos consistently, feeling like a video rockstar and prospects and clients are loving it- this may be the time to upgrade your gear. Again I'll warn to keep it simple. For anyone that needs to hear this... you don't need two cameras, the elevator music is putting us to sleep and the step and repeat backdrop can look"cheesy."
Show up as your authentic self and we will love you. So will your clients.
